3 Interesting Wiki Searches
Week 1
1. “List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events”
Did you know that the majority of people who gave an actual date for the end of the world said it would end in their own lifetimes. According to the wiki, the announcement of a permanent midnight has been done to divert attention from actual crisis like war or poverty coming from all the way back in the early times of the “Common Era (CE)” The first date on the list comes from 66CE which was proposed by a group of Jewish Magi’s (Look up Magi) and the last entry is dated at a “Googol” which is a 10 with 100 zero’s behind it and it describes “the heat death of the universe” where all energy is exhausted and instead of it all ending in a bang, it ends with a whimper. If you look up a video timeline of the lifespan of the universe on youtube you can actually get an idea of what that would look like (according to youtube scientists)
Some more interesting dates and their theories are: The Big Rip scenario where the universe expands so wide that all matter is torn apart. Grigori Rasputin has a proposed doomsday date for August of 2013. It doesn’t say how he calculated this but just that the world would be consumed by fire and only Jesus would come to comfort the suffering (don’t touch me Jesus) It is interesting to see how most of the theories on the end of the world have religious origins. Seriously, it seems like 95% of all these predictions come with a basis on religion. The Nuwabian Nation predicted a “star holocaust” in 2000. Charles Manson predicts an apocalyptic race war will ravish mankind. I wonder if he was on acid when he first proposed this idea.
2. “Banana Massacre”
Also called the “Santa Marta Massacre.” It is no secret some despicable acts of violence and neglect have been done in the same of capitalism. 100 years ago in the country of Columbia, hundreds of acres were purchased by the United Fruit Company (American) to grow a crop of bananas. The business was so large, the company built schools and villages for workers to move their families close to the industrial complex. After some native leaders of the workers became organized, over 25,000 workers participated in a strike which asked their employers to recognize the banana workers as legal employees and provide the legal working conditions that were mandatory for Columbians at that time. Well militias were sent to the protest site and told the workers to leave. After 5 minutes, bullets were flying through the air. The general in charge said only 47 murders were at fault of the army’s. In reality an estimated 3,000 men, women, and children were killed. In America, the newspapers said the worker’s were demanding too much. In Columbia, the newspapers said the workers were within their rights when asking for better working conditions. All in the name of bananas.
3. “Chinchorro Mummies”
Did you know that the Egyptian mummies are not the oldest “artificially-mummifieed humans?” A whole 2,000 years earlier than the sarcophogi in Egypt, there was a fisherman culture in present-day Chile. The oldest known mummy from this culture actually dates back 4,000 years before those found in Africa. 90% of their diet is seafood and one very unique aspect of their culture is that they mummified ALL of their members once deceased. We all know that as a majority, most ancient civilizations reserved the intricate process of mummification to only the ruling class of society. However the Chinchorro tribe did not choose social classes, sex, or age. All members once they are dead would have been mummified and even displayed at one of the tribe’s rituals. The world’s oldest-surviving tattoo can also be found on the corpse of one male coming from this goup.
